Transforming a course so that the learning experience can occur online is challenging. Making it an exceptional learning experience, even more so.
As a Learning Designer for Noodle Partners, you will work 1-1 with our university partner faculty to help realize their vision for their courses. You’ll do more than that, though. You will help them create a learning experience we wish all students could have. The role of the Learning Designer is to engage with faculty in a collaborative partnership that allows the faculty member to share their vision and expertise and you to translate that vision into an interactive, world-class online learning experience, using a blend of synchronous and asynchronous resources. The Learning Designer finds ways to make the design process as easy as possible for faculty, knowing the faculty member’s vision, combined with your knowledge of learning, will create the most effective and engaging learning experience the students have ever seen. You help faculty create a “Wow!” Learning Designers report to the Director, Learning and Development.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Learning Designer:
- Designs university-level courses that facilitate student engagement, collaboration and learning, by leading the creation of outlines, blueprints and storyboards with university faculty vision in the forefront
- Engages faculty in useful discussions about their course by bringing creative learning solutions and options together;
- Injects wonder and joy into the learning experience where appropriate;
- Has a high bar of excellence; delivers maximum quality,
- Takes responsibility for every aspect of the course design, from language to aesthetics, and ensures everything works as intended
- Crafts language for asynchronous materials and activities that are housed in the school’s Learning Management System (LMS);
- Ensures the course is structurally sound, according to the principles of effective learning and the guides created by Noodle Partners;
- Applies appropriate pedagogy to achieve course learning outcomes;
- Collaborates with the production team to ensure that all course artifacts, such as media, interactives and simulations, are purposefully designed;
- Contributes to a learning design experience that the faculty member will enjoy resulting in a course of which they are proud;
- Participates in regular design meetings, including meeting virtually with faculty and on campus for the program and term kickoffs; and
- If appropriate, builds courses into the LMS according to the design documents, on time and to our standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree; preferably a doctoral degree
- Experience creating truly innovative curricula for a blended (synchronous and asynchronous content), virtual environment
- Experience designing aesthetically beautiful, and appropriately scaffolded online, blended courses for higher education, preferably at the graduate level
- Experience designing courses in Canvas and/or Sakai
- Familiarity with SCORM, graphics and/or web design, and development skills using various tools/software (Articulate, Captivate, or similar)
- Familiarity using audio and visual editing tools (Final Cut, Adobe Premier, After Effects, Camtasia, Audacity),
- Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to storyboard
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to engage and partner with faculty ranging from the most enthusiastic and inexperienced to the most skeptical and exceptionally skilled
